What are allergies?

Allergies create serious health problems. They are the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in the United States, and they are the most frequently reported chronic illness in children. Allergens are found in indoor and outdoor environments and most allergens enter the body through inhilation. Since our homes are so energy efficient nowadays, our levels of indoor pollutants are up to 100 times more concentrated indoors than outdoors. Allergic illnesses often lead to much more serious respiratory illnesses, such as sinusitis and asthma. Dust mites are responsible for 25% of all allergies, and are one of the leading causes of asthma worldwide. Dust mites are microscopic; 7000 of them can fit on your fingernail! They live on dead human skin cells and water vapor, which they get from our perspiration and respiration. You can keep cleaning, but you'll never totally get rid of them.
